Kabul (The Killid) – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani rang the bell for new school year with motto “Better Education, Better Afghanistan” at a ceremony held in the capital city of Kabul.

Ghani conveying speech at a school opening ceremony said that government’s plan for upgrading school facilities and curriculum have already started and that 1,000 modern laboratories will be provided to different schools in the country.

“At least 11,000 new teachers will be appointed in the near future,” he said.

According to Ghani, school officials will provide student with resources they need for their better education, adding 10.5 million textbooks have been published and 37 million further are to be printed for pupils in schools nationwide.

The textbooks are being printed in local printing houses, unlike previous years which was being published abroad, he exclaimed.

In a bid for better facilitation of internet, Ghani said, “Some 115 schools in nine provinces have been connected through Fiber Optic network, and 31 schools have been facilitated with computer labs.”

“Country’s educational plan has been set into three stages, of which the first stage have been implemented last year, and the other two will be implemented in this year,” he said explaining constructive plans in the field of education throughout the country.

Meanwhile, other provinces in the country have also started schools since Saturday, while expressing measurable concerns over limitations and challenges students face during their studies.

Bamyan Province, Central Afghanistan

Last year, more than AFN800,000m is spent on provincial school facilities, but sources said administrative corruptions and misconduct on teachers emolument in some districts have lead the city to a measurable defeat in this area.

Mohammad Taher Zahir, provincial governor, said he has fought against corruptions and shall stand firm on this year as well.

According to sources, more than 60 schools do not have shelter, and thus the students are obtaining education at residential homes, masjids and even under the tents.

Herat Province, West Afghanistan

Officials during the launching ceremony of schools said, “In this year, 100,000 new enrollees have been registered at schools throughout the province.

Ruhullah Azhad, provincial head for the Ministry of Education, said Herat this year have witness a remarkable number of enrollees, which seems promising for province and the country all in all.

However, Azhad reflecting on various aspects said lack of adequate teachers, budget and educational shelters are of some main challenges the province is facing.
