The construction project of the second section of the fourth Herat-Khawaf railway’s segment has officially begun in the industrial zone of Herat province. Officials pointed out that this railway line is really important to import and export commercial goods, with the aim to give much easier access to traders.

Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, deputy governor of Herat, emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is constructing railways in other regions of Afghanistan as well to further enhance trade activities.

“Upon completion of the railway, traders will be able to transport their export goods to neighboring countries at a very cheap cost, and the Islamic Emirate assures its commitment to efforts in constructing railways in other regions as well.” He said to Killid.

Meanwhile, officials from Gamma Group, responsible for the construction of this part of the Herat-Khawaf railway, have revealed that the second section is 47 kilometers long and is to be completed in a year and a half to two years. It estimates the cost for this project at 53 million dollars, while the company makes efforts to finish the railway in 18 to 20 months.

Mohammad Shah, a trader in Herat province, optimistically spoke about the completion of the Herat-Khawaf railway project, stating that it would give more ease in the transportation of commercial goods and make jobs available to residents.

“From the cement factory to the industrial zone, there are over a hundred villages which will greatly benefit from this project by making jobs available and transporting traders at cheap rates.”

It’s worth noting that the first section of the Herat-Khawaf railway’s fourth segment,43 kilometers long, on which work started in late 2023, is already 80 percent complete. The total Herat-Khawaf railway is 226 kilometers long; 149 kilometers fall within Afghan territory, and an additional 77 are in Iran.
