The Islamic Emirate Reacted to the Statements of the UN Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan

Zabihullah Mujahid in a series of tweets has said: “The United Nations special rapporteur, ignoring the one-year progress of several things in Afghanistan and pointed out a few specific cases based on false information”.

Richard Bennett, in his first report to this council, said: “The political, economic, and human rights situation in Afghanistan is unfortunate and the Islamic Emirate should change their policy”.

He said: “I am deeply concerned about limiting the civil, economic, political, and social freedoms of women and girls.”

The UN special rapporteur for human rights in Afghanistan has also said that Afghans are trapped in a human rights crisis and the world has so far been unable to deal with it.

However, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, responded to these statements and said: “Women in Afghanistan do not face any threat, they are not killed in war and no one can harm their dignity. Richard Bennett’s report on human rights is biased and far from facts. In his report, he ignored hundreds of developments in Afghanistan in the past year and pointed out a few specific cases based on misconceptions and false information. While 181 public and private universities across the country are open to women and men, and the education has expanded in 70 percent of the remaining parts of the country”.

However, some experts have different views regarding this report.

Ahmad Mojtabi Kakar, a political expert, said: “These reports not only cause people’s despair but also pursue political goals”.

He also added: “In politics, such reports can have a negative impact on the political interactions between Afghanistan and the world and ultimately lead our country to negative and harmful results regarding the legitimacy of the Islamic Emirate.”

In a part of this report, the bad economic situation of Afghans is also mentioned, while according to some experts, the international community is also responsible for this situation.

Zahid Amrakhel, an international relations expert, said: “We accept that the economic situation and other human rights issues are not good, but the international community didn’t have any suitable solution for humanitarian aid and improving the economic situation for the people of Afghanistan.”

Richard Bennett, after being appointed as the UN rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, visited several major cities in Afghanistan during an eleven-day trip.

He said that during this trip, he met and talked with many groups, including senior officials of the Islamic Emirate.
