April 4 (The Killid Group) – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani offered a proposal on Friday, putting his political rival in charge of the intra-Afghan peace negotiations.
President Ghani on Friday suggested Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to be the head of the new peace high council in a bid to break the political deadlock that rooted from last year’s disputed election results.
President Ghani in a proposal said, “A high peace council should be established and [Abdullah] should head the high peace council,” adding that “His protocol can be the protocol of a vice president, his security, his budget, his decision-making, all can be discussed. We have full flexibility.”
Ali Akbar Jamshidi a close figure to Abdullah, however, said that Ghani’s proposal is not acceptable for Abdullah as he wants an executive role equivalent to a prime minister.
The political impasse that stemmed from September’s controversial election results still continues amid the spread of coronavirus across the country.
