North Afghanistan (The Killid) – At least 23 locations have been cleaned of armed opposition groups, as the Afghan security forces ended the first phase of Waleed 40 operations in northern provinces of the country, local authorities said.

North Afghanistan (The Killid) – At least 23 locations have been cleaned of armed opposition groups, as the Afghan security forces ended the first phase of Waleed 40 operations in northern provinces of the country, local authorities said.

Mohammad Hanif Razae, Spokesperson for the 209th Saheen Corps, told the Killid, “In these operations, nine villages in Balkh province, seven in Chatmal and seven further in Dowlat Abad districts and localities have been freed from armed opposition groups.”

According to Razae, a dozen of militants, including two of their key commanders Wazir Gul and Nawab, have been killed, as well as some guns and ammunitions have also been seized from different locations during these operations.

Meanwhile, the 209th Shaheen Corps officials said they will launch the second phase of the Waleed 40 operations in upcoming few days in Charbolak, Sholgera and Zari districts of Balkh province.

The first phase of the Waleed 40 operations had started early March in at least three insecure province in north, and came to end Monday, as result the security forces were able to retrieve a number of areas dominated by armed insurgents.
