The 2019 presidential election is scheduled on July 20, for which Independent Election Commission has aired the preliminary list of Candidates.
Credentials of all the 18 candidates who registered their names have been evaluated and is considered qualified, said IEC Chairman Abdulbadi Sayyad.
According to IEC, candidates have dully complied their applications in accordance with Afghanistan’s constitution and article 38 of the Election Law; and there is no insufficiencies in their documents.
Based on Election Law, the presidential candidates should neither have dual citizenship, nor have committed any crime.
Independent Election Commission (IEC) officially started the registration process for presidential elections on January 3; the process ended on January 20.
The candidates who bid for 2019 Afghan presidential seat include former member of Afghanistan’s parliament Abdul Latif Pedram, incumbent President Ashraf Ghani, incumbent Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, former national security advisor Mohammad Haneef Atmar, former foreign minister Zalmai Rassoul, former minister of interior Noorul-haq-Ulomi, former Afghan ambassador to India Shaida Mohammad Abdali, Sayed Noorullah Jalili, Enayatullah Hafiz, leader of Hizb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Ahmad Wali Massoud, Noor Rahman Laiwal and former NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil, Mohammad Hakim Torsan and ex-director general of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faramarz Tamanna.
Independent Election Commission (IEC) stresses the list for the presidential candidate is yet not finalized; and will be announced after an assessment following a possible complains.
