National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives seized three and a half tonnes of potassium chloride from a truck after crossing from Pakistan into Nangarhar province yesterday.
A NDS statement said the chemical, used in making bombs by the insurgents, came from Pakistan to “carry out terrorist attacks in Kabul.”
The statement added the potassium chloride weighing 3,500 kilograms was from 150 sacks loaded on the truck at Torkham border crossing.
It alleged the chemical had been skillfully hidden in the sacks in the name of sugar and terrorists intended to use the explosives in terrorist activities by transferring it to Kabul.
“One person was arrested in connection with the seizure,” the statement reads, without giving further details.
