Safi Airways announced it is pleased that the tax dispute with the Afghan Civil Aviation Authority has been resolved. Safi Manager International Affairs, Farid Nazari, stated, “An agreement was reached with the respective authorities for the airline to make payments in installments. I would like to thank the Afghan traveling public and our travel agency partners for standing by us whilst this matter was being resolved.” Nazari also stated that their operations were never suspended as reported by a section of the media. Reports said the airline’s domestic operations were discontinued on Tuesday, 6 September, and international operations on Thursday, 8 September. “We regret the irresponsible media coverage has damaged our reputation and created loss of revenue… Passengers have been misled to believe that our operations have been suspended which was not the case, this caused inconvenience to the public and the airline during the peak Hajj holiday season. Safi Airways legal department is in the process of bringing it to the attention of the respective government (departments) and media regulatory body and taking legal action for defamation.”
