Anthony Mvaloshai, the spokesman of the country’s army, says that the explosion took place on Sunday in Kivu province, and a Kenyan citizen was arrested in connection with it.

But officials in Uganda, which shares a border with Congo, say 16 people were killed in the incident.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the church blast, but Congolese officials say the attack may have been launched by the Allied Democratic Forces.

In 2021, the US added the Allied Democratic Forces to the list of terrorist organizations.
