According to the information of Iran’s judiciary, this Belgian citizen has been sentenced to pay a fine and 74 lashes for smuggling 500 thousand dollars in cash.
According to the Iranian authorities, this Belgian citizen, whose name is Olivier Vandecasteele, has 20 days to appeal.
At the same time, the Belgian government called the court’s decision about Vandecasteele inhumane and says that Iran did not inform that country about the charges against him.
It should be noted that 41-year-old Vandecasteele was arrested and imprisoned by the Iranian security forces in February 2022.
