(TKG) ─ According to media reports, Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 crashed shortly after takeoff near the capital of Iran on Wednesday [January 8, 2020], leaving four Afghans killed.

According to media reports, Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 carrying nearly 180 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff near Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport in Iran on Wednesday.

The recent reports indicated, 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 8 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans, and three British nationals are the victims of the crash.

Earlier, it was reported that the crash was due to technical snag; however, the cause of the crash remains unknown as the investigation continues.

Ukrainian officials issued a statement Wednesday to media as saying, it’s unlikely that the plane crash was the result of error or technical snag, and investigations are ongoing.

However, according to the newest reports from CNN news agency, Iranian Civil Aviation authority has found that Ukrainian Airline Boeing was on fire before it crashed, it said in an initial report on Thursday, citing witnesses.
