Badghis – The ongoing 3-day battling fights between the Afghan forces and the Taliban militants have rocked several districts in Northwest of the country, inflicting heavy losses to both side, sources confirmed.

Senior officials of the Defense Ministry earlier this day confirmed that Taliban has suffered heavy casualties in the ongoing airstrikes on hideouts of the group in Bala Murghab and Ab Kamari districts of the Badghis province, entering its third day Saturday – areas were under Taliban siege for days now.

According to the Ministry of Defense’s deputy spokesman Col. Zubair Arif, the Special Unit of the Army is fighting against the Taliban, and will continue to do so until they declare victory over the militants.

“The operations will continue until the districts are fully cleared of the enemy,” said Arif as local media quoted.

Meanwhile, the Resolute Support forces said in a statement the US airstrikes hit five Taliban positions in support of Afghan Security Forces in Bala Murghab district in Badghis province on Friday night, adding they support will keep backing the Afghan forces.

Sources confirmed some 36 members of the Afghan forces killed in the two-day clashes in Bala Murghab district – which started since Thursday.

“The Afghan Defense and Security Forces are carrying out clearance and air operations led by the First Deputy Minister of Defense Yasin Zia in Bala Murghab and Ab Kamari districts in Badghis which have inflicted heavy losses to the enemy,” Local media quoted Qais Mangal, spokesman for MoD as saying.

This is the second time in a month that Bala Murghab bears heavy attacks by militants. Last time was early in March where the area was dominated by Taliban for more than two weeks, leaving dozens of security forces dead and some 28 of them gone missing.

President Ashraf Ghani on April 2 approved the annual security plan to fight terrorism by enhancing security measures.
