Bamyan Journalists Concerned of Access to Information

Local journalists in Bamyan expressed concerns over lack of access to information in the province. They said that lack of accountable legal and judicial institutions, resources, and education constitute their core problems. Fatima Rezaee, a local journalist in Bamyan, told killid that legal and judicial institutions do not provide journalists with proper information and officials of the institutions do not want some events to reach media or public. Meanwhile provincial officials recalled the growth of civil society and freedom of expression as one of their major achievements. Mohammad Tahir Zahir, provincial governor, told Killid that freedom of expression is stable as previous years and will remain strong and durable. He added that all governmental agencies are obliged to provide information to journalists. This follow as a number of provincial local journalists were beaten by security forces six months ago as they tried to cover President Ghani’s visit to the province.
