Afghan and Russian officials said that Afghan National Security Advisor (NSA) Hanif Atmar is due to visit Russia on Thursday. They said that Atmar will visit Russian defence and interior ministers and some other Russian high ranking officials and will discuss Afghan peace process, and regional cooperation between Kabul and Moscow. Tawab Ghorzang, spokesman for NSA, said that the core aim of Atmar’s visit to Russia is to discuss counter terrorism and drugs, Afghan peace talks with armed anti-government oppositions, and to further seek Russia’s military support to Afghan security forces. Meanwhile Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Alexander Mantytskiy has also confirmed Atmar’s visit to Russia. Earlier Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani visited Russia and discussed Afghan peace process with armed anti-government oppositions and further sought Russian’s military support for Afghan security forces.
