Several residents of Nimroz Province complain about the lack of spices and equipment in health centres.

Due to a lack of equipment and medicine, hospitals and health centres in Nimroz are not able to meet the needs of patients and a large number of patients are hospitalized for a long time.

Ahmad, one of the Nimroz residents said that he was hospitalized for 10 days due to diagnosing his disease, but so far the doctors have not diagnosed his disease.

“The governmental hospital cannot solve the problems of the patients due to the lack of equipment. I was hospitalized in this hospital, There are no facilities, there are no tools and equipment caring for the sick, there is no oxygen and not enough beds.”

He added that he buys the needy spices from pharmacies in the city, but he cannot buy most of the medicines.

Mohammad Wali, the brother of another patient, said that “the governmental hospitals have not enough facilities and doctors said go to Kandahar, Herat or Kabul for treatment”.

“The patients have to be examined in several places for the diagnosis of their disease, they wander from one clinic to another clinic”, according to him.

Meanwhile, doctors confirmed the lack of medicine and medical equipment in Nimroz hospitals and clinics and said that there is not enough equipment.

They asked the Ministry of Public Health officials to make standard hospitals to provide better health services including modern equipment and enough spices.

Dr. Pir Mohammad Shinwari said in an interview with Killid: “Nimroz is a remote province and nothing has been done in the health sector, neither in the private sector nor in the government sector. We have a hospital in Nimroz, it has many problems. This health centre is not enough even for one district.”

However, the officials of Nimroz Hospital confirm the problems of this hospital, but they say that the problems will be solved soon.

Bostan Hotak, a hospital head said: “There are problems, but not so much. We have a shortage of equipment in the cancer and hemodialysis departments, and we can activate these departments as well. The cooperation of elders and businessmen is needed for progress in the health sectors.”

Moreover, some partner institutions of the health sector report their continuous assistance in this province.

Dr Rashiduddin Nasser, a Relief International Institute official in Nimroz province says: “Our project provides health services and medical and non-medical equipment for about 19 health centres and governmental hospitals in the centre and districts.”

He added that this institution working on projects of building clinics in the districts and remote areas and would send mobile doctors to hospitals.

However, the Nimroz Public Health Department officials and some partner institutions have not commented on the people’s complaints.

This is while the Nimroz residents say that they are forced to travel to other provinces for the treatment of a minor illness. Adding that Hundreds of patients visit Nimroz Hospital every day, but they are not treated due to the lack of facilities and medicines.
