Donor Countries Pledged $9 Billion to Compensate Flood Damages in Pakistan

Dozens of countries and international institutions pledged more than 9 billion dollars on Monday (9th January) to help Pakistan in rebuilding the damage caused by the summer floods in this country.

Hina Rabbani Khar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan at the end of a one-day conference at the United Nations offices in Geneva said that the amount of aid promised by the international community was higher than the country’s estimate.

Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan has undertaken programs to monitor and ensure the use of foreign aid.
As a result of this summer’s floods in Pakistan, 1700 people were killed, and more than 2 million houses were destroyed, which left more than 30 billion dollars in damages for this country.
