Violence against Women Rises in Zabul

The province’s women’s department reported violence against women has increased and the central government has not done anything to bring it down. Sediqa Jalali, head of the women’s department, said that an unusually high number of incidents of violence have been registered this year from Zabul’s centre and districts. Jalali asserted the government has not paid any attention to improve women’s status in the province, which is a main challenge to women’s human rights.  Most Zabul citizens find it hard to make ends meet. Many women and girls supplement the meager family income by doing tailoring or embroidery.
