People’s Wish to Build Tora Water Dam in Zabul

The residents of Qalat city, the capital of Zabul province, have welcomed this action of the government and say, after building this dam, the problems of the farmers of this province will be solved.

The construction of the Tora dam in Zabul province has been one of the dreams of the people of this province for the past forty years.

Two kilometers southeast of Qalat city, the water that passes by the Tora stone mine is stored in the Tora dam with a capacity of 9 million cubic meters.

Abdul Karim Zulfaqar; The head of the Tarnak Jaldak area of ​​Zabul province tells Killid that the Tora dam for Qalat city is a vital project that is financed by the Islamic Emirate.

According to him, this project will be completed in about a year and a half with a cost of 97 million AFN.

“This dam stores 9 million cubic meters of water, produces 100 kilowatts of electricity, and irrigates 600 hectares of land. This project provides clean water for five thousand families. Its total cost is 97 million AFN, which is paid by the Islamic Emirate.”

Bahauddin Aka, who works on the uncultivated land with his young son, says that after years there is hope to access water.

“That’s why I came here to build the dam, we work on it every day, it is very useful and these five villages will be settled through it.”

On the other hand, Manan who is also a farmer says that after hearing the news about the construction of the Tora dam, his energy to work increased again and he started working on his land.

This land has not been watered for four years, this dam should be built.

Meanwhile, Najibullah; A resident of Qalat is worried about the lack of drinking water in the city. But now he thinks that by making Tora dam, this problem will be solved.

“I am very happy because of the construction of this dam, I think that the water in the wells will rise again and hopefully it will return to its previous state.”

Nurgol, who lives near the Tora dam, expresses hope that after the construction of this dam, he will collect good products.

“I am happy that this dam is being built. If there is water, our yield will reach about 8400 Kg. Now there is no water, so our situation is not good.”

With the completion of the Tora Dam, which supplies 50% of Qalat city with water, jobs will be provided for tens of people in the fields of tourism and agriculture.
