School Girls are Working in Helmand

I came to a tailoring workshop in the city of Lashkargah, in an area of 400 meters, fifty girls are engaged in free training and work in tailoring.

In this center, those girls whose schools have been closed are busy learning to tailor.

In this center, I met a girl named Fauzia, who hide her face in a scarf, and only her eyes full of tears could be seen, and with the political changes that have been made, their schools have been closed and they have become very poor, and they are unable to get an education. They don’t hope to get her higher education.

“I was in 10th grade, I was an honor student in my class, I was doing well in school, but now I lost hope. I come here and work”.

Another girl in the mentioned center mentions the same problem and says that she is trying to support her family by learning to tailor here.

“I was in eighth grade, our school was closed, our house is rented, and I have a mother and a brother. My brother went to Iran because of poverty. If I learn to sew, I will be able to support the family to some extent”.

He also asked other wealthy women to participate in establishing similar centers.

Ms. Mozhgan, the head of this center, told Radio Killid that the main goal of this workshop is to keep girls busy and reduce their mental stress.

He added that 50,000 AFN was spent to build this center so that girls can be trained in this way and create a business for themselves.
If girls study here and learn to tailor, they can help their families.
At the same time, he asks charities and organizations to intervene in this field.
Charities should prepare facilities and buy sewing machines for us.
The officials of the Department of Industry and Trade of Helmand province also consider this problem to be fundamental and say that they are in contact with this ministry. These officials say that they hope to find a suitable market for these women’s handicrafts.

Maulavi Abdulwali Hashemi, the head of the Department of Industry and Trade, told Killid that they are trying to create a market for handicrafts and women’s clothing.
They produce handicrafts and clothes at home and we find a market for women’s handicrafts and try to do it as soon as possible.
Although similar centers for women have been established in many provinces, including Helmand, they want the Islamic Emirate to open girls’ schools as soon as possible and fulfill its promises to the people in this regard.
Officials say that serious work is underway to open girls’ schools above the sixth grade, and whenever the leadership of the Islamic Emirate decides, they will open the schools to all girls.
