The officials of the Department of Agriculture say that with the help of charitable organizations, they will provide modified seeds and chemical fertilizers to 30,000 farmers this year.

Farmers in central and northern districts of Helmand province say that if the government does not support farmers this year, they will face severe hunger.

Gholam Yahya, a farmer in Marja district, told Radio Killid that the drought in the last two years has caused serious economic problems for him and he is struggling with these issues.

He asked the government to help them in digging deep wells to irrigate their crops and grounds.

“The government should help us by digging deep wells so that we can use the water”.

Mirajan, another farmer in the mentioned district, is also suffering from drought and economic problems. He told Radio Killid that farmers had suffered a lot of losses.

According to him, not only have the fields dried up, but drinking water is also hard to find in many areas.
Farmers cannot afford to pay their living expenses, and although wells have been dug, there is very little water.

Residents of Nad Ali and Sangin districts also mention the problem of water shortage.

Khan Mohammad told Radio Killid that the affected villages do not have water and most of them are at risk of drying up.

The wells we dug have become depleted, now instead of four inches of water, barely one inch of water is extracted. In some places, the groundwater level has decreased to a depth of 90 meters.

The officials of Helmand province say that they have given modified seeds and chemical fertilizers to the farmers of this province.
Maulavi Zainullah Zahid, the Deputy Director of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, told Killid that with the help of charities, the distribution of modified seeds and chemical fertilizers has started among farmers, and the decision is to distribute this aid, among 30,000 farmers through the World Food Program with the help of other relevant institutions.

We are planning to distribute modified seeds and chemical fertilizers to 30,000 farmers with the help of charities, and this process has already started.

It is not only Helmand province, but many other provinces have suffered the same issues due to drought and economic problems.
They ask the government and charities to help them in such a difficult situation.
