COVID-19 Death Toll in United States Hits Nearly 50,000

April 24 (The Killid Group) — The total death from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has jumped to nearly 50,000, according to the data collated by John Hopkins University.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) infection toll hit at least 866,646 in the United States, with 49,759 total deaths, mostly in New York city, a tally by John Hopkins University indicated.

At this rate, U.S. deaths will reach 50,000 no later than Friday.

The New York City remains the country’s worst-affected part, with a total of 20,861 deaths in the city as of Thursday.

Following the New York State, the state of New Jersey has the highest number of infections and fatalities by the coronavirus pandemic.

As of Thursday, the New Jersey has reported 99,989 total infections in the state while 5,368 deaths in the state.

In the meantime, 26 million people have sought U.S. jobless aid in the past five weeks since the coronavirus hit, and about one in six American workers have lost their jobs, by far the worst string of layoffs on record, according to media reports.

Globally, 185 countries have been affected, over 2.7 million people have been infected with the illness and nearly 200,000 have died of the disease as it spreads rapidly to new territories, according to a tally by John Hopkins University.
