April 23 (The Killid Group) — The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan rose to 1,226 on Thursday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

Afghan health authorities said that over the past 24 hours, 50 more coronavirus cases were recorded in the country, bringing the infection toll to 1,226 cases.

Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz said on Thursday [April 23] that the new confirmed cases of coronavirus include 21 in Herat, 15 in Kunduz, six in Kabul, four in Logar and one case of infection in each Takhar and Jawzjan provinces.

So far, 40 patients having been contracted with the novel coronavirus have died of the illness while 177 have recovered, health minister added.

Cases in Afghanistan have been gradually increasing despite the imposition of a lockdown in the country.
