According to a statement issued by the Presidential Palace, Mohmmad Hanif Atmar, who had previously held multiple high-profile capacities in the country, was appointed as the acting foreign minister.
He was a presidential candidate in last year’s elections too, but he withdrew his candidacy without favoring other electoral campaigns.
Mr. Atmar previously had worked as the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Education, Interior Affairs as well as National Security Advisor.
Earlier, President Ghani appointed Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal as the acting minister and nominee for the Afghan Ministry of Finance and Mohammad Taher Zaheer as the acting minister of the Information and Culture Ministry.
President Ghani introduces his cabinet amid the political impasse between him and his political rival that stemmed from last year’s disputed election results.
