(TKG) ─ According to a source within the Taliban’s group, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, met with the Taliban’s deputy leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Doha, Qatar.

It is likely that the U.S. and the Taliban will reach an agreement to reduce violence, hold a ceasefire and initiate intera-Afghan talks in Afghanistan.

In the meantime, the Afghan government is hopeful of initiating face-to-face negotiations between them and the Taliban.

U.S. officials announced a “brief pause” in talks with the Taliban after the armed group launched a suicide attack on a U.S. military base in Bagram, Afghanistan, killing two civilians.

Zalmai Khalilzad wrote on his Twitter page as saying that the Taliban should reduce violence and respond to Afghan demands.
