Badakhshan Governor Vows to Retake Taleban Areas

Ahmad Faisal Bigzad, Badakhshan governor, asserted the military will drive out Taleban at a  meeting held with tribal elders and residents of Wardozh and Yamgam districts. He promised the operation will be launched as soon as reinforcements arrive from Kabul. A press release from the governor’s office stated that Bigzad has urged local jihadist commanders and residents to cooperate with security forces for the success of the operation. He informed people that the local government was aware of their problems and hence this operation was planned to oust Taleban and other insurgent groups. Wardozh and Yamgam districts have been under Taleban dominance for the past two years. Their fighters are also in some other areas of the province such as Jorm district, where they have been behind attacks on the local government. Though no security or intelligence officials have confirmed the presence of Daesh in Badakhshan, three months ago some Members of Parliament (MPs) raised voices about black-masked insurgents carrying a Daesh flag in Dara Khastak area of Jorm district.
