A number of fuel retailers in Helmand province complained of extortion and beating by police in Greshk district. They said they are giving fuel to police but still being beaten by them. Tribal elders and residents of Greshk claimed they have informed local officials as well as police chief of Greshk but the problem has not been addressed yet. Greshk police chief dismissed the complaints by fuel retailers and the public. Meanwhile, Hayatullah Hayat, governor of Helmand, detained and punished some police for extortion on the Kabul-Helmand highway from drivers and passengers. Hayatullah said if people complain of misbehaviour by the police, the guilty would be punished.
