Top foreign ministry officials from China, Pakistan, and Russia are meeting in Moscow today to review what they perceive as a gradually growing threat to their frontiers posed by Islamic State extremists in Afghanistan. Afghan officials have voiced displeasure over not being consulted on the meeting. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) deputy spokesman, Khairuallah Azad, said that if there is no presence of Afghan government representatives, the talks would not have a positive impact. The Afghan National Assembly also raised concern over the issue and stated that holding of such meetings without the participation of the Afghan government is blatant interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
