Ghani Vows to Improve Education

Ringing in the new school year, President Ashraf Ghani vowed to improve quality of education and overcome lack of school buildings across the country.
Speaking at an event in Kabul to mark the start of the 1397 school year, he said 6,000 school buildings will be built within the next two years.
He said 200 million USD has been allocated for this plan.
“My decision is that every appointment in teachers’ post should be done through the independent administrative reforms commission. The culture of paying bribe for appointment of teachers is not acceptable,” he said.
According to him, 50 percent of schools in Afghanistan sans buildings, 3.5 million children are deprived of education and at least 1,000 schools have remained closed across the country.
He said he has directed relevant government institutions to overcome the problems faced by education and schools across the country.
The president said that 18,000 vacant posts will be announced in education sector this year.
