At least 26 people tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic within the past 24 hours, according to health ministry’s data released Monday.

The country recorded two COVID-19 deaths during the same period.

The new patients died from the illness pushed the total deaths to 2,446, according to ministry’s figures.

Also, 11 patients having been contracted with the COVID-19 disease have recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing the toll of coronavirus recoveries to 49,344.

It comes as Afghanistan last week began its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic was launched on Tuesday, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.
