TAKHAR (The Killid Group) – The Taliban insurgents gained control over at least two districts, Yang-e-Qala and Darqad, in Northern province of Takhar, local authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The group on Tuesday initially carried attack in Yang-e-Qala districts and gained control over short after which they raided Darqad district.
Jawad Hijri, spokesman for the Takhar Governor, told reporters Afghan security forces have tactically withdrawn to prevent civilian casualties in Darqat district.
Forces will be deployed short after backup support arrives, he added.
Meanwhile, the Taliban confirmed Yang-e-Qala and Darqat districts have fallen into their hands.
Zabiullah Mojahed, a spokesman for the Taliban, said in a tweet that Afghan forces suffered heavy loss, as they group gained control over the districts and seized a huge number of arms and ammunitions.
