Uzbekistan officials and Taliban group have confirmed that Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar has travelled to Uzbekistan last week and held talks with senior officials from Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the Taliban delegation exchanged views on peace prospects during their meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The delegation exchanged views with Uzbek officials on the withdrawal of foreign troops and also explored ways for reconciliation in Afghanistan,” Suhail Shaheen, spokesman for the Taliban political office has told The Daily Times.
This comes as there was no immediate reaction from Afghan officials in Kabul.
