A number of institutions and societies hold meetings on this issue every year and put light on the effects of climate change in Afghanistan.

A similar meeting under the title of climate change and its consequences on Afghanistan was held on Monday by the TLO or Liaison Office and the Environment and Natural Resources Watch Foundation.

Participants of the meeting said that although Afghanistan has a very small share in the use of greenhouse materials, it has been greatly affected by climate change and facing troubles.

Abdul Rahim Khuram, The Deputy Director of the TLO or Liaison Office said that climate change has affected the lives of 8 billion people around the world.

He added that the countries that have no part in climate change have been affected the most.

“We request Ministry of Information and Culture to cooperate with us in the field of public awareness, so that people know what the environment is and what dangers it poses.”

At this meeting, financial and administrative Director of the Environmental Protection Authority, Abdul Salam Haqani, said that in recent years, 37 percent of rains and snowfall in Afghanistan have decreased compared to other years and 104 thousand hectares of agricultural land has been demolished.

Haqqani added that Afghanistan is the sixth country in the world that has been greatly affected by climate change, but according to some surveys, it is number four.

“The international community should not consider the issue of climate political, however humanitarian and help Afghanistan in this regard. No cooperation of international community has caused climate change in Afghanistan.

At this meeting, the European Union’s Chargée D’Affaires, Raffaella Lodice said that climate change is a human issue and should be worked on together.

She added that war in Afghanistan has caused severe damage to the country’s economy and has impacts on climate change.

“The European Union wants to implement a number of climate change projects in Afghanistan. The European Union will never politicize the climate issue. There should be public awareness about climate.”

At the meeting, UNAMA’s Director of Political Affairs on climate, peace and security, Ms. Charity Watson said that climate change is a serious issue in the whole world and should be worked on.

“We know that since 2021, aid to Afghanistan has been reduced in the field of climate change. UNAMA will continue its efforts in Afghanistan and will continue assisting Afghans.

It is worth noting that yesterday at the meeting held in Kabul on the occasion of the International Week of Climate Change, the Administrative Deputy of Prime Minister Maulawi Abdul Salam Hanafi called on all economic countries to cooperate significantly with countries suffering climate change.
