Lack of Access to Health Services of Andkhoi Residents

Services of hospital are considered inadequate for the people and government is requested to increase facility of health services to the residents of the districts by upgrading this hospital.

Haji Mohammadullah, a resident of Andkhoi, expressing his concern about the economic situation of people and lack of health service facilities and medicines needed by patients in Andkhoi hospital, says: “In our hospital, there are not enough rooms, doctors, medicine, the doctors cannot take care patients and they go to Sheberghan and Mazar, patients from 5 districts, including Daulat Abad district visit this hospital. We have problems.”

Meantime, a resident of the district, Mohammad Aref brought his mother for treatment to hospital, says: “My mother was sick, I took her to the doctor. Very little care is available in hospital, people cannot afford private doctors and buy medicine, people’s problems must be solved.”

Shukriya, a patient, came to this hospital for treatment, says: “We came to the doctor, there is no medicine, the doctors cannot do anything because there is no medicine. There are too many patients, we are poor people and we do not have money to buy medicine outside, what should we do? The government should build hospitals and clinics and solve our problems.”

Meantime, Haji Hamidullah is tribal influencer told Killid that people have frequently suggested the improvement of this hospital to local and central health officials, but no attention has been paid in this regard. “The population of Andkhoi is 500,000, however, the hospital has 30 beds. Patients visit this hospital from the neighboring districts of Tagab and Daulat Abad also. We want the Islamic Emirate and health authorities to upgrade this hospital to 100 beds for solving people’s problems.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjar Omar, in charge of the 30-bed hospital in Andkhoi says that an average of 1,000 to 1,500 patients visits this hospital daily.

“We have the capacity of 30 beds, but an average of 40 to 50 patients need beds in the hospital daily. When the work exceeds the capacity, in this case, shortages will be seen. The only solution to the problem is upgrading this hospital. So, we can provide better services.”

However, officials of Directorate of Public Health of Faryab say that the shortages, such as medical facilities and equipment, lack of medicines and professional doctors, have existed for many years and efforts are proceeding to remove problems.

Dr. Zahir Shah “Jihadmal”,  Acting Director of Public Health of Faryab says that the facilities in the health centers are based on the evaluations of a few years back; now, the population has gone up and it has also caused problems.

His point of view, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is the donor of medicine in all health centers, the assistance is not provided in appropriate quantity and current needs of society is not considered.

“These problems are not only related to the four districts of Andkhoi; however, people are struggling with such problems in all districts of Faryab. Be sure that how much budget and facilities are available to us will be utilized. However, we will not be silent.” We will make the people’s voices heard by the authorities.”

The director of Faryab public health also added that due to the lack of beds and medical equipment in the health centers in the districts have caused the density of patients in the provincial hospital of Maimana.

In his opinion, the only way to prevent overcrowding of patients in the provincial hospital is upgrading health centers in districts.

Despite these problems, lack of drinkable water in the four districts of Andkhoi (Andkhoi, Khani Charbagh, Qaramqul and Qurghan) has also increased the residents’ health problems and has caused increment in seasonal diseases, such as diarrhea.

The residents of Faryab have always complained about the lack of medicine, medical equipment, lack of drinkable water, lack of transportation ways, and lack of doctors’ attention to patients, and they want local and central authorities to take seriously care problems.
