All Historical Monuments of Herat Have Been Damaged in Recent Earthquakes

The officials of Information and Culture Directorate of Herat Province, express concern regarding recent earthquakes, all historical monuments of this province have been damaged.
Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.3 and 6.2 occurred in Herat province, which caused several aftershocks.

All Historical Monuments of Herat Have Been Damaged in Recent Earthquakes

Ahmadullah Muttaqi; director of information and culture of Herat, says to Killid that as a result of earthquakes, the most damages have been occurred to The Great Mosque of Herat. He says, after the situation get better in Herat, Directorate will start restoration of damaged historical monuments.

He added: “In general, all historical monuments have been damaged. We are very sad. It was not only a human disaster, but also historical monuments have been damaged.”

Meanwhile, cultural experts in Herat ask the authorities to pay serious attention to refurbishment of damaged historical monuments.

Mohammad Sediq Mir; cultural expert states this damage incomparable disaster to the historical monuments of this province: “The disaster that happened to the historical sites and monuments, especially The Great Mosque of Herat was unprecedented in the last hundred years. I went to the ancient city of Herat; there was no place left sound.”

However, Herat Great Mosque’s tiles restoring expert labors say that they are facing a shortage of personnel.

Bashir Ahmadi Faqiri; a worker says that 80% of the diaphoretic tiles of Herat Great Mosque have crumbled.

Faqiri said: “We are four tiles’ workers, making of tiles will not be finished soon,  pupils are required to be hired, so we take step as soon for saving further destruction.”

Omid Nik Nam; expert labor calls on foreign and domestic institutions to cooperate in the refurbishment of Herat’s historical monuments: “With the number of expert labors work in seven-color and diaphoretic tiles, we construct 2-3 square meters per month; but we don’t have the ability to construct more with the same personnel.”

While, it is reported that all the historical legacies of Herat have been damaged, in recent years, travelling of tourists to see historical monuments of Herat has significantly increased.
