China to Establish Spy Facility in Cuba

The media have announced the establishment of a spy base by China in Cuba, but American officials have denied this news and claim that the United States is monitoring all of China’s activities.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Beijing and Havana have agreed to establish a secret electronic eavesdropping centre.

China has reached a secret deal with Cuba to establish an electronic eavesdropping facility on the island roughly 100 miles from Florida, according to the Wall Street Journal. But the US and Cuban governments have cast strong doubt on the report. It’s said that China will establish an electronic listening centre in Cuba.

Citing American officials familiar with classified information, this newspaper reported that such a spy base would allow Beijing to intercept electronic communications from the southeastern United States; where many US military bases are located, collect and continues to monitor ship traffic.

The report added that according to this deal, China will pay Cuba billions of dollars.

But Pat Ryder, the United States Air Force brigadier general and Pentagon Press Secretary rejected this report and said that the United States monitors all the activities of China.

“Based on the information we have, this report is not accurate. We are not aware of the development of the relation of the spy base in Cuba. Separately, I want to say that we monitor the relations between these two countries. This report, which you have heard many times, China’s activities are concerning in our air and around the world, and we are following these activities closely.”

Meanwhile, Carlos Fernandez De Cossio, Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister of Cuba, called this report completely baseless and said that this report was created by the United States of America.

He stated that the purpose of such a report is to justify Washington’s decades-long economic embargo against the island of Cuba.

He added that Cuba rejects any foreign military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

At the same time, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, also called these reports baseless.

“Unfounded interference in the internal affairs of other countries is the speciality of the United States, which is itself a major eavesdropping country. The United States has illegally occupied the Guantanamo base in Cuba and is engaged in such worthless issues. The embargo on Cuba was imposed more than 60 years ago”.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the agreement between the two rivals of the United States, both run by communist governments, has raised the concern of the US government about a new threat near its shores.

This is while the United States widely uses Taiwan as a listening station against China and regularly flies spy planes over the South China Sea.

It is worth mentioning that the tensions between the two rivals increased after a suspected Chinese spy balloon crossed the US airspace.
