Syria Agrees to Opens 2 Border Crossings for Transferring Humanitarian Aid

The United Nations announced on Monday (13th February), that the President of Syria has agreed to open two new border crossings from Turkey at the northwest of the country so that aid and equipment needed to help millions of earthquake victims can be transferred through this way.

Syria Agrees to Opens 2 Border Crossings for Transferring Humanitarian Aid

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to open the Bab al-Salam and al-Raee crossings for a three months period. Currently, the UN is only able to send the necessary aid to the northwestern region of Syria through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with the permission of Russia.

It should be mentioned that this announcement was published after the meeting between Assad and Martin Griffiths, the head of humanitarian affairs of the United Nations, in Damascus on Monday.
