At least 4,232 civilian casualties are confirmed in Ukraine since Russian troops invaded on Feb. 24, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has said in a statement on Sunday.

The U.N. mission believes the true numbers are probably “considerably higher.”

The total killed are 1,793 and the number of those wounded stands at 2,439, according to the U.N. figures.

1,880 casualties (642 killed and 1,238 injured) were in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and 1,534 casualties (571 killed and 963 injured) were recorded in government-controlled territory, according to OHCHR.

The territory controlled by the self-proclaimed ‘republics’ included 346 casualties (71 killed and 275 injured).

In other regions of Ukraine, 2,352 casualties were recorded.

Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of “explosive weapons with a wide impact area,” the statement said, including shelling from heavy artillery and multi-launch rocket systems, and missile and air strikes.
