The U.N. agency added that 3.5 million children need nutrition treatments.

“Acute malnutrition rates in 28 out of 34 provinces are high with more than 3.5 million children in need of nutrition treatment support,” WFP reported.

Earlier the United Nations children agency (UNICEF) warned that 3.2 million children under the age of five will be acutely malnourished in Afghanistan in 2022.

With Afghanistan’s health system on the brink due to a financial squeeze, millions of Afghan children are at risk of starvation and death.

The financial crunch worsened after Washington froze about $10 billion of the country’s reserves.

The U.S. in a new move has divided some $7 billion of Afghan funds between aid and families of 9/11 victims as compensation.

The U.S. later said a court will make the further decision.
