The Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid who showed his face in a historic press conference two weeks ago after years of being hidden said Tuesday that it was better for the United States to had resolved the issue through talks instead of invading Afghanistan.

With the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, the country is now fully independent, Mujahid said. So many Afghans sacrificed their lives in this war. Now a robust Islamic government will be formed, he added.

“It was our legitimate right to fight American forces,” the Taliban spokesman said.

The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday said following the departure of the last U.S. troops from the Kabul airport that “a new chapter of America’s engagement with Afghanistan has begun.” “It’s one in which we will lead with our diplomacy.”

Analysts have different perspectives on end of the U.S.’ longest military involvement in Afghanistan.

Ending its 20-year military mission, the United States left Afghans with so much misery and difficulties, Kabul-based analyst Ajmal Hotak spoke with TKG.

He blamed the U.S. for the country’s instability, ethnic bias among people, corruption and keeping a distance and widening it between the government and the nation.

He called on the Taliban to work to establish a robust government, unite the nation and reappoint Afghan security and defense forces back to their jobs.

Fazlullah Wahidi, another analyst, described the U.S. departure from Afghanistan a good move and said the United States has failed to deliver on its commitments.

Talks continue between Afghan politicians and the Taliban on forming a new government, with the Taliban saying the new government will be inclusive.
