Karimi competed in eight events—pre and on final—of World Series Para Swimming championships which started Thursday in the state of Texas, United States, he took to social media.
On final events, Afghan swimmer secured first place in the 100m freestyle event, second place in 200m freestyle, and first place in 50m freestyle.
In the 50m butterfly, Karimi secured first place and highest score, winning the silver medal.
He will be competing in 50m backstroke tomorrow.
“I won this medal for 80million Refugees in the world and for my 40 million Afghans in and out of the country,” he took to Facebook.
Afghan-born Mohammad Abbas Karimi made history at the 2017 World Championships in Mexico City when he became the first refugee to win a medal at a major Para swimming event – he won silver in the men’s 50m butterfly S5.
In 2018, the swimmer also won gold at the World Series in Indianapolis.
