Pfizer/BioNtech’s vaccine becomes the first drug to be used in the United States to prevent the COVID-19 disease.
U.S. President Donald Trump in a video posted on Twitter on Friday night lauded the vaccine as “one of the greatest scientific accomplishments in history”, adding the first dose would be administered in less than 24 hours.
The worst-affected country which has registered 292,642 deaths caused by the deadly disease follows UK, Canada and Mexico, which have also authorized the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for widespread use.
The vaccine was found 95% effective in preventing the novel coronavirus after a trial involving more than 43,000.
