The Afghan health ministry announced Sunday (June 28) that the country has now registered 30,947 coronavirus cases and a total of 737 deaths since the outbreak.

In the last 24 hours, 351 more people tested positive for the virus, and 34 additional people have died after contracting it, a tally by the Afghan health ministry indicated.

The capital Kabul saw the largest increase in cases on Thursday with 220 new positive tests, whereas eight additional patients died of the illness in the past 24 hours.

Herat province remains a second coronavirus hotspot behind Kabul, where the health ministry reported an additional 24 cases in the past 24 hours.
The rest 107 new lab-confirmed cases were registered in 14 provinces of the country.

Another statistic has also indicated a rise: the number of patients recovered from the illness. According to health ministry data, 2,004 additional patients recovered from the novel coronavirus, bringing the toll to 12,588.
