COVID-19 Infection Toll Hits 367 in Afghanistan, with Total of 11 Deaths

April 6 (The Killid Group) — The infection toll from COVID-19 in Afghanistan hit 367, with a total of eleven deaths since the outbreak, said Health Ministry officials.

According to Mohammad Rafiq Shirzai, Herat’s health department spokesman, in Afghanistan, of the total 30 confirmed cases over the past 24 hours, 16 were in Herat, the country’s worst-hit region, six in Kabul, three in Nimroz, two cases in each provinces of Kunduz and Faryab, and one more case of infection was reported in Daikundi.

Health officials in Balkh, in the meantime, has reported two deaths from COVID-19 in the province.

Waheedullah Mayar, health ministry spokesman said in a press conference on Monday that a doctor having been contracted with the coronavirus illness has died in Kabul.

Afghanistan has now recorded a total of 367 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with at least eleven fatalities in the country.

Amid spread of the contagious coronavirus across the country, Afghanistan, however, has been working to improve its testing as well as treatment capacity in a bid to better control the virus, as recently, a 300-bed hospital was inaugurated in Herat province for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, which first emerged in China’s central city of Wuhan has now spread to almost every continent and has killed thousands of people, mostly in Italy and Spain.
