March 24 (The Killid Group) – U.S. Secretary of State met with the Taliban officials in Qatar on Monday on his way back from a one-day trip to Afghanistan in a bid to end political crisis that has threatened U.S.-Taliban peace deal.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the Taliban deputy leader Mullah Baradar and other officials in Doha to discuss implementation of U.S.-Taliban peace accord and prisoner swap, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed said in a statement.
“The meeting which took place in the capital of Qatar, Doha, centered around the implementation of the US-IEA agreement and the swift release of prisoners,” the statement read.
The two sides “stressed” the implementation of the U.S.-Taliban peace deal that “will pave the way for intra-Afghan negotiations, along with enduring peace and ceasefire including a future Islamic government in accordance with the agreement,” the statement added.
According to the statement, Mr. Pompeo also made commitments that the withdrawal of U.S. troops “will continue in accordance with the declared timetable,” the statement further added.
