(TKG) – The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) held a debate in Kabul on Saturday, which urged for a prominent presence of women in the peace process.
Makia Munir, an Afghan female journalist, expressed concerns over the state of women after the signing of an agreement between the United States and the Taliban, saying that women’s participation in the peace process is symbolic and that they had been marginalized.
She reiterated that women can have a coherent as well as a bold presence in the peace process.
In the meantime, Fawzia Kofi, a former member of parliament (Wolesi Jirga), said that in the current state, women have no significant role, nor they are safe.
According to her, women need to be empowered to be in charge of their own destiny and play an active role in the peace process.
Durrani Waziri, the Deputy Spokeswoman for the Afghan Presidential Palace, on the other hand, said women would be included in the government’s negotiating team for the intra-Afghan talks.
She emphasized that women’s freedom and rights are the government’s red line in the peace negotiations.
Following the agreement signed between the United States and the Taliban, the intra-Afghan talks are set to begin on March 10 of the ongoing year.
It is worth mentioning, the Afghan government has constantly emphasized that the achievements of the last two decades, in particular women’s rights, will not be sacrificed at all.
