The Preliminary Results of Afghanistan Presidential Elections Announced

The Independent Election Commission ultimately announced the preliminary results of the presidential elections, today [December 22, 2019]. The Independent Election Commission ultimately announced the preliminary results of the presidential elections, today [December 22, 2019].

According to the information released by IEC, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani obtained 923,868 votes; Abdullah Abdullah 720,990 votes; Gulbuddin Hekmatyar 70,242 votes, Rahmatullah Nabil 33,921 votes, Faramarz Tamana 16,066 votes; Sayed Noorullah Jalili 15,526 votes, Abdul Latef Pedram 12,608 votes; Enayatullah Hafeez 11,374 votes, Mohammad Hakim Torsan 6,504 votes; Ahmed Wali Masood 3,942 votes; Mohammad Shahab Hakimi 3,324 votes; Ghulam Farooq Najrabi 1,606 votes and Noor Rahman Liwal 865 votes.

The preliminary results of elections indicated that the current president, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, by securing around 50.64% of votes is the next president of Afghanistan.

It had been, however, decided that the results would be announced on 19th October of the ongoing year, but due to technical problems the process was delayed.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the leader of the Stability and Convergence team, however, said that the result is not acceptable.
