The chairperson of Independent Election Commission [IEC], Hawa Alam Nuristani, said at a press conference on Saturday [December 7, 2019] that if the electoral teams did not allow the resumption of vote recounting process, they would have to announce the preliminary results of the presidential elections without counting the votes of the remaining provinces.
Mrs. Nuristani warned the electoral teams that if IEC was not allowed to resume the vote recounting process, the preliminary results of presidential would have to be announced.
According to her, the electoral teams should allow the counting process in the remaining seven provinces to accomplish the incomplete election process and declare the results of the presidential election as soon as possible.
In the meantime, electoral teams, the Independent Election Commission and the office of United Nations in Afghanistan are currently [December 8, 2019] holding a joint press conference to end the post-election ambiguities and respond to the demands of the electoral teams.
However, the vote recounting process has not yet been allowed in the seven provinces, including Panjshir, Takhar, Faryab, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan and Jawzjan, and the provincial offices of the Election Commission are remained close due to interference of some of the presidential candidates.
