URUZGAN (The Killid Group) – At least two children are confirmed dead after suffering poliovirus in southern province of Uruzgan, health officials said.

Saifuddin Hamnawa, a polio vaccine program official, told The Killid two cases of polio have been registered at the health facilities on Saturday in two different locations of the province.

In first case, a six-year-old child is confirmed dead, after bearing the disease in Saraw district of Chora, while the second case, where a two-year-old victims was diagnosed with polio in Trinkot city, center of the province, according to Hamnawa.

He estimated seven polio positive cases in the province, saying most of the victims are from areas under the influences of the Taliban insurgents, where health officials are hindered to implement polio vaccine program – depriving some 140,000 children of the vaccine.

But a Taliban spokesman Qari Yousof Ahmadi said the group did not prevent the implementation of vaccine program in Uruzgan province.
