Faryab (The Killid) – Afghan security forces have discovered an alcoholic beverage machine in Maymana city after an inspection at a liquor factory, local authorities said.

During the inspection, police have also discovered some 100 liters of castrated and dampened raisins and a full-fledged IED magnetic mine from the factory, which officials then seized.

Karim Yourish, provincial police spokesman, said at least two suspects have been nabbed in the case.

“In connection with this case, the Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan have been able to detain two people from the liquor factory,” said Karim to the Killid.

According to local police, this marks the fourth similar case in Maymana city, where officials have been able to arrest at least seven people charged with illegal business.

The production and consumption of alcoholic beverages, especially wine, in Afghanistan is prohibited for Afghan nationals. The government, however, provides a license for various outlets to distribute alcoholic beverages to foreign journalists and tourists, and black market for alcohol consumption is prevalent as well.
