Young Generations Role in Afghan Peace Process

Bamyan (The Killid) – Young generations of Bamyan province stood up announcing their support to Afghan peace process, exclaiming they should be added to National and Inclusive Negotiating team.

It comes after the Afghan government last week called on politicians and people from various layers of the society to introduce their representatives for a National and Inclusive Negotiating team to conduct peace talks on behalf of Afghan citizens.

According to what young generation believe, they should be part of every steps being taken towards peace in the country, as they – young men and women – add up to 60 percent of the Afghanistan’s roughly 36 million population.

Ali Samey, an Afghan youth in Bamyan, said to the Killid, “We want a lasting peace in the country and support the ongoing peace negotiations. But youth’s presence seemed to be dim in the process.”

“Considering the impacts of ongoing insecurities and conflict in the country, young generations bear a major part of the inflicted causalities – they shouldn’t be deprived of the process,” said Horya Mandgar, another youth. “The role of Afghan youth and women are not showing up in the process,” she added.

Meanwhile, civil society activist said that the achievement of the past 18 years, mainly values concerning human rights, should with no cost be compromised during the peace negotiations.

In recent months, Afghan government and politicians have initiated concrete talks towards establishing lasting peace in the county, as the US and the Taliban representatives made the fifth round of talks in Doha, Qatar that is underway since past weeks.
